What interesting times we have when teaching 9th graders. In the past week we had a guest speaker who has just finished research in Rwanda. He visited with my 9th grade students and explained how methane gas was captured and used to heat water to cook in their homes. For your information two cows will provide four hours of cooking in the home. The next day we had a short quiz from our guest presentation and the question was "What animal must a family own to have methane gas for cooking?" A young lady responded, "Mr. Young I can remember the type of animal but not her name!". I also did not know the cow's name and was not much help to her!
Same class different young lady gives me a Redneck definition of ruminant that Jeff Foxworthy would appreciate. She was not sure what animals were ruminants but when asked if anyone could define she states "Mr. Young there is no room-n-ant closet." You will just have to sound out for yourself to appreciate.
Teaching can be very funny at times and we must learn to laugh with the kids because tommorrow is my day to make a mistatke I'm sure.

Kicking Off the New Year - School Year That Is!
The school year has started and as usual we all get busy really quick! Not only am I involved with teaching classes but I also have college classes that I am being taught. The whole idea of participating as a 'lifelong learner' is so exiciting!
The beginning of school is so bumpy and takes a few weeks to get the kinks worked out. I am no different and have not been as good of a student as I have a teacher (I HOPE). I plan on all of my bumps and kinks to be behind me and move forward and have a positive sememster at Vardaman High School and in AIS 6203.
